What gives your life meaning?
Questions lift us out of the distractions of everyday life and bring greater consciousness.
Every other week, you’ll receive a writing prompt to contemplate or write about in your journal.
“The act of consciousness is central; otherwise, we are overrun by the complexes. The hero in each of us is required to answer the call of individuation. We must turn away from the cacophony of the outer world to hear the inner voice. When we can dare to live its promptings, then we achieve personhood. We may become strangers to those who thought they knew us, but at least we are no longer strangers to ourselves.”
― James Hollis, The Middle Passage: From Misery to Meaning in Midlife
This lake is in Oregon and one of my favorite places to camp and hike in August.
Today, we’re talking about living a meaningful life. You have all the answers to life’s questions inside you, so I hope you’ll journal this prompt and discover what gives your life meaning.
When I was taken off the ventilator and wheeled back to my room on the medical/surgical floor seven years ago, my first thought was this — I don’t need any more certifications.
The answer was immediate and true. I also knew the people in my life, my family, and my relationships were important.
In the ICU, I’d put on an eye mask and earplugs so I could go inside where it was quiet and sleep. I began to visualize myself hiking on the Rosary Trails on the Pacific Crest Trail. At that point, I couldn’t walk due to the extent of my injuries. I knew traveling and being active were central to my life, so I began working on my brain to help take my body there. Two years later, I hiked the three Rosary Lakes with girlfriends.
Now, over to you.
I’d love to hear a few things that make your life meaningful.
