Loved this Sherold. As a co-recoverer of trauma who has experienced much PTG, I relate to your words. I'm in therapy again and will be experiencing EMDR soon and am actually excited about it. I am also a retired psychotherapist and did a lot of work with clients using DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy). It uses a combination of CBT, Mindfulness, Acceptance, and working on trauma doesn't begin until the client has built recovery skills. I learned a lot from your post.

Linda, I’ll look for a CBT therapist that insurance will cover. That might be good for me. Thank you and I love E. Jean too - such courage.

Linda, thank you! I appreciate your comments because you have also had your share of tough stuff!

I'm thinking of doing more EMDR because it seems to be a fast way to deal with PTSD. I did it for five years after the accident. I've been in Internal Family Systems therapy for two years. I'm stopping because I need a different therapist. DBT sounds interesting and what you did for yourself - becoming a psychotherapist was probably the best thing you could have done to heal yourself. You are a PTG girl too! I hope you're having a good time with E. Jean and writing. xo

Yes...I do think becoming a therapist myself did a lot of things for me, including building my self esteem, right? I had been kicked out of high school. LOL. You can read tons about DBT online. I love E. Jean and also writing here! Take good care of you! I know it's important to find a therapist that meets your particular needs. I went to six years of therapists who were using psychodynamic types of therapy and didn't know there was any other kind at the time (1970s). It wasn't right for me at all. I got better with CBT, which was newer back then. Take good care of you!
