Hello my friend - I hope you’re doing well. Here in the U.S., we are deep in the fall season with many of the colorful leaves falling.
I’ve been going through a season of deep personal growth in my thirty-year marriage. My husband has become my greatest teacher, showing me things about myself I needed to see. He’s also finding out more about himself and working to change. Even marriages have seasons that change the nature of the relationship. I’m a private person, so I won’t say more except that I’m doing all the things I can to keep myself in fit spiritual, mental, and physical condition.
For the past year, I’ve focused on building more of a community of women here in Portland, Oregon. I also joined a few online groups, but meeting online is not the same as in-person gatherings. I’ll continue to build my community because it’s a key element of our resilience and becomes even more important as we age.
I rely on my meditations each morning using the Calm app to start the day fresh and open to what’s to come. In addition, I made a special 10-minute Letting Go meditation based on David Hawkins, MD, PhD’s, book Letting Go. It’s simple and easy to do and it will help you learn to let go of thoughts, stories and emotions that are holding you back and keeping you playing small in your life.
“Letting Go” is a guide to helping to remove the obstacles we all have that keep us from living a more conscious life, it is truly a life-changing book. Many of us have trouble Letting Go in our lives even though it can have profound impact on our life.”
—Wayne Dyer
I hope you’ll download the meditation and try it. I’m finding it helpful. The more you listen to it when you’re experiencing difficult emotions and follow the instructions, the lighter you’ll become. Let me know how it works for you!
Guided Meditation: The Letting Go Practice
Most of us were never taught how to process emotions. We learned to suppress them (”be strong”), express them (”let it out”), or escape them (distraction, numbing). But there’s a fourth option that most people have never tried: surrender.
Dr. David Hawkins, author of Letting Go: The Pathway of Surrender, discovered that emotions are just energy trying to move through us. When we resist feelings, we trap them in our body where they create tension, pain, and illness. When we allow them without resistance, they naturally dissolve.
This 10-minute meditation guides you through three simple steps:
Allow - Notice what you’re feeling without trying to change it
Welcome - Create space for the emotion to be present
Release - Ask yourself, “Could I let this go?”
The beauty of this practice is that you don’t have to force anything. You’re simply creating the conditions for natural release. Your body already knows how to heal—this meditation helps you get out of its way.
Best used when:
You’re feeling overwhelmed by emotions
Physical pain is triggering fear or resistance
You notice yourself trying to control everything
You want to practice elevating your consciousness
You need a reminder that surrender is strength, not weakness
Press play, close your eyes, and let yourself be guided back to trust.
XO, Sherold
