“Maybe I Can”: How One Woman Turned Limiting Beliefs into a $300K Business Breakthrough.

How to use fear as your rocket fuel begins Sunday, May 18th.
How Teresa Greenway rewrote her money story by questioning everything she believed about what was possible.
Teresa Greenway had ten children and spent thirty years in an abusive marriage.
When I met her in 2014, she had just found the courage to leave. She was living on food stamps, earning less than $300 a month, and barely surviving. I gave her a scholarship to my money class called Smart Women Make Money (I’m bringing it back in June).
Teresa joined the Smart Women Make Money program at the lowest point in her life. I wondered, “Can this class give her the breakthrough she needs?”
In one of our first classes, I coached Teresa on one of her limiting beliefs,
“No one can live on three hundred dollars a month,” she told me, which she was struggling to live on then.
“It was what you said that changed my mind,” Teresa told me.
“You challenged my belief by showing how I was living on three hundred a month, and that God was taking care of me in my circumstances. That blew my mind because no one should be able to live on three hundred a month, but I had a rent-free roof over my head (our mortgage was paid off). My son was living on the property too, and he was paying the bills for his part of the rent.”
“I lived in a country where I could get food stamps to help care for my kids. Instead of looking at the positive, I focused on the negative.”
Her transformation didn’t begin with a windfall or some dramatic external shift. It started inside her mind.
As we dove into the work, Teresa came face-to-face with a relentless stream of limiting beliefs:
“I never went to college.”
“It’s impossible to work full-time with a special-needs child.”
“I’m too old. It’s too late for me to change.”
“I can’t compete. I don’t belong.”
“God loves poor people. Maybe I’m meant to struggle.”
Teresa had never stopped to hear these thoughts. But once she did, she realized how deeply they were polluting her mind, dragging down her self-worth, and keeping her frozen.
And then… something shifted.
It was small. Almost imperceptible.
She started saying to herself, “Maybe I can make money.”
That quiet, humble thought became the spark. It cracked open a door that had been locked for decades, and light began to pour in.
Teresa asked herself, “What do I love? What could I teach?”
The answer surprised even her: bread. She loved baking—especially sourdough, which she’d mastered through years of experimentation. Maybe, she thought, she could teach others online.
She discovered Udemy, an online learning platform, and created a class. It wasn’t fancy. She filmed it herself. But it was hers. And it worked.
Within weeks, her sourdough course started gaining traction. Udemy spotlighted her as one of the top instructors of the year. She was stunned. People from around the world were enrolling to learn how to bake.
With each new sign-up, her mindset evolved:
From “Maybe I can…”
To “I am doing this.”
To “What else is possible?”
She set a bold goal: $10,000 a month from bread classes.
When I checked in about six months later, she was earning $5,000 a month, and not long after, $6,700.
Eventually, she bought her first home and launched The Baking Network, a global online community and membership site for passionate bakers.
From $300 monthly on food stamps to about $300,000 in income from her Udemy course and The Baking Network.
Not because someone “saved” her, not because she suddenly had more time or resources, but because she questioned the mental clutter that kept her stuck and chose a new thought.
“Maybe I can.” That’s where everything changed.
And if it changed for Teresa, it can change for you, too.
